Frequently Asked Questions

How are university credits earned?

High School students who complete the KU Kiswahili STARTALK Academy satisfactorily will receive five KU credits that will appear on the University of Kansas transcript. These credits may be transferred to the University of Kansas or other institutions by the institutions requesting copies of your transcripts to be sent to their offices.  See the link for more information about ordering KU transcripts.

Do I need to pay to participate in the program?

No. The program is free.

Are there transportation options from Overland Park, KS?

Yes!

1:00hr to 1:20hr (depending on where you go)

Stops include: 

  • JCC Campus, Overland Park;
  • KU Edwards Campus, Overland Park;
  • KU Campus, Lawrence;
  • Irving Hill and Naismith, Lawrence;
  • 19th and Haskell, Lawrence

Cost:

  • 10-ride pass: $27
  • 3-day pass: $8
  • 31-day pass: $95

Summer Youth pass:

  • $12 per month

JCC Campus, Overland Park to KU Campus:

  • Leave: 6am, 7am, 8am, 9am, 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30am
  • Duration: 1 hour

KU Campus to JCC Campus, Overland Park:

  • Leave: 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm, 4:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm, 8:05pm (last bus)
  • Duration: 1 hour
